What Timestamp Is This? Timestamp Identifier

Timestamp identifier

What timestamp is this? Paste an unknown numeric timestamp to compare possible dates. Modern Unix timestamps commonly have 10 digits for seconds or 13 for milliseconds, but length is only a clue. Check the date against the app or file it came from.

Compare Unix seconds, Unix milliseconds, Apple/Cocoa seconds, and legacy Mac HFS+ seconds. Results default to UTC. A number alone cannot identify its epoch with certainty. Microseconds, nanoseconds, and date strings are not supported here.

How do I choose the right interpretation?

Compare each date with when you expect the event to have happened. Then check the source application or file format for its epoch and unit. Several formats can produce valid dates from the same number, so a plausible date is a clue, not proof.

Convert an identified timestamp

Open the Unix / epoch converter, paste your value, and select its timestamp format and unit to see local times and copy other date formats. For Apple values, see the Apple / Cocoa converter.
